<sub>"... why was my life short?"



In the memory of my lovely first cousin Maritess (she changed her name to "Teris Casco"), who was dead today. After they were celebrating her birthday, she was brutally battered to death by her Mexican husband in the U.S. Now he's at the jail. She left her two kids - 2 and 4 years old. Her body will come home for the funeral here in the Philippines soon.

When was the last time I saw her? She met me at my all-girls high school when I was 16 years old. I remember that she smiled at me and said to me gently, "Sweetie May, don't forget to make a painting for me, okay?"
